Episode 3: The Elevation letters

One of the most challenges in pronunciation of Arabic letters is the letters that sound alike. Today we will talk about a group of them and I will give you a tip on how to differentiate between these letters for better pronunciation.
Identify the sound of these letters with me:
ض،د – ط، ت- ظ، ذ- ص،س – ق- ك
The movement of the mouth and lips helps distinguish each letter as it is being pronounced, but it isn’t enough. There is another important thing that helps enhancing the pronunciation.
Letters: ض ط ظ ص ق. These letters have a distinctive characteristic in the Arabic language. Did you notice that they sound heavy and thick? These letters have the same characteristic, which is the Tafkheem (Heaviness) and they are called in Arabic: The Elevation letters. because the tongue is elevated when pronouncing them.Why?
This area is called the “roof of the mouth”, and this is the tongue: when we pronounce one of the Elevation letters, we will notice that the tongue rises upwards: try ض، ط، ظ، ص، ق
It is very important to pay attention to the direction of the sound as you pronouncing the Elevation letters, the sound goes to the top (roof of the mouth) and remains there and does not come out of the mouth, and for this reason, the sound appears thick and heavy.
While in the opposite letters to the Elevation letters, د، ذ، س، ك ، تthe direction of the sound goes down and out of the mouth, note If you put your hand in front of your mouth, you should feel the air against your hand as you pronounce the letters:
د، ت ، س ، ذ، ك
While you will not feel the air when pronouncing: ط، ظ، ص، ض، ق
Now let’s recognize the difference in meaning in the following words:
block
dam
longs for
tolerate
uncomfortable
rooster
voice
whip
Envelope
shed
Now to the sentence pronunciation practice
listen first:
I can’t stand the rooster’s sound, it makes me feel uncomfortable.
The dam blocks the sound.
repeat the sentence with me aloud
Now, say it out loud by yourself.

حلقة 3: حروف الاستعلاء
اهلا بكم
أنا ساجدة من فصيح
من أكثر التحديات في نطق حروف اللغة العربية هي الحروف المتشابهة بالصوت، سنتحدث اليوم عن مجموعة منها وسأعطيكم نصيحة تساعدكم في لفظها وتمميزها بشكل أفضل.
ميزوا معي هذه الحروف
ض،د – ط، ت- ظ، ذ- ص،س – ق- ك
حركة الفم والشفتين تساعد في تمييز الحروف عن بعضها ، ولكنها ليست كافية هناك شيء آخر مهم سيساعدنا في لفظها بشكل أحسن.
الحروف : ض ط ظ ص ق ، هذه الحروف لها صفة مميزة هل لاحظتم الصوت فيها يكون ثقيلا، مفخما ، تشترك هذه الحروف في صفة التفخيم ،وتسمى في اللغة العربية بحروف الاستعلاء ،لماذا، لأن اللسان يكون عاليا إلى فوق عند نطقها، كيف دعونا نرى
: هذه المنطقة تسمى “سقف الفم” ، وهذا هو اللسان: عندما ننطق واحدا من الحروف المستعلية سنلاحظ ارتفاع اللسان إلى فوق
جربوا ض، ط، ظ، ص، ق
من المهم جدا أن نلاحظ اتجاه الصوت عند لفظ الحروف
. المستعلية، الصوت يتجه إلى أعلى (سقف الفم) ويبقى هناك لا يخرج من الفم ولهذا السبب يظهر الصوت مفخماً وقوياً
بينما في الحروف المقابلة لحروف الاستعلاء د، ذ، س، ك ، ت ، فإن اتجاه الصوت إلى الأسفل ويخرج من الفم ، لاحظوا
: إذا وضعتم يدكم أمام فمكم ، فبإمكانكم أن تشعروا بالهواء الخارج عند لفظ حروف
د، ت ، س ، ذ، ك
بينما لن تشعروا بالهواء عند لفظ: ط، ظ، ص، ض، ق
: والان لنميز الفرق في المعنى بين الكلمات
